RIPPLES: A COMMUNITY CELLPHONE FILM

Produced by Strike Pictures, Ripples is a collaborative film project inviting Fredericton-area residents to document their daily lives using their cellphone cameras as a way to creatively explore the climate crisis. Through a series of hands-on workshops, participants will reflect on how ordinary routines connect to larger environmental issues, and gain simple tools for capturing those moments on film. No prior experience is needed—just a willingness to share, reflect, and collaborate. The resulting footage will be shaped into an experimental visual portrait that blends personal expression with collective insight, offering a powerful and poetic response to eco-anxiety and climate awareness.

BACKGROUND

The New Brunswick Conservation Council’s artist-in-residence program “Harm to Harmony” is a community-centered collaborative climate action art project, which aims to offer varying perspectives on the natural world and the challenges that our society faces today.

THE PROJECT

For this project, Strike Pictures is looking to partner with volunteer community members to document their daily lives using their cellphone cameras. By blending participant-generated audio and visuals, we aim to reveal how even ordinary, everyday choices are connected to the climate crisis. The resulting footage will form the basis of a collaborative, experimental visual portrait—raising awareness while offering participants a creative outlet to express their eco-anxiety.

THE GOAL

Strike Pictures will host a series of short workshops with community members to explore how the climate crisis connects to our everyday lives and to share practical tips for filming these moments. Together with participants, we will shape the final film—crafting an experimental narrative that authentically reflects each of their voices.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO PARTICIPATE

If you're based in the Fredericton area and looking for a creative way to express your thoughts and feelings about the climate crisis, we want to hear from you! No experience with film or editing is required—this project is all about sharing everyday experiences and building something together. As a group, we’ll reflect on our daily lives, explore new tools for expression, and collaborate to create a powerful piece of community-generated art.

TIMELINE

We will be hosting workshops over the course of August and September, depending on participant availability.
